Filey Revamp January 2024

Hi again from Sarah and Steve. We thought we’d share with you some ideas we have for revamping our properties in January 2024. We usually close them after the New Year period for a month to undertake maintenance and repairs and update the properties in terms of the décor, home furnishings, etc. Dartmouth recently had a new kitchen and dining area, so the focus this time is on the lounge area, making it more cosy and moving away from all-white walls, bringing in feature walls, accent furniture, and more artwork. Watch this space!

The Greenwich had all the upstairs redecorated and new carpets fitted last year. This January, we will be focusing on downstairs, looking at reconfiguring the kitchen, replacing the blinds and curtains and standardizing the décor throughout. We also need to make the most of the available area and maximize seating, etc., which is another project to keep your eye on!

The Howker is the property that we have had the longest and is redecorated each year. This January, we would like to modernize the décor, furnishings, etc., to give it a refresh and bring in flashes of colour using feature walls and pieces of accent furniture. Given its location and fabulous sea views, the nautical theme will be key in this property. We hope that you like the changes that we will have made!

Christmas On The Yorkshire Coast

Hi, and welcome back to the Seaview Escapes blog. It’s time to think about the Christmas festivities. Why not spend your Christmas break by the sea? Christmas on the Yorkshire coast is a magical experience. The Yorkshire coast is packed full of Christmas activities and events to help you bring in the New Year.

Pantomimes are always a family favourite, and you are spoiled for choice on the Yorkshire coast as there are venues at Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby putting on a pantomime this year. New for 2023, Scarborough Lights promises to bring a sparkle to Scarborough in the build-up to Christmas, with over 60 light installations at 14 different venues across the town. There are plenty of Christmas markets and the famous Robin Hood’s Bay Victorian Weekend, where you can pick up unique gifts and treats. Whitby also hosts the annual Whitby Krampus Run. The Krampus is a horned figure from Alpine folklore who punishes naughty children during the festive period. It is still celebrated in many European countries.

You will find a superb range of independent and local shops along the coast, as well as plenty of places to eat and drink, essential when you’ve had a hard day Christmas shopping!

If you are looking for something more adventurous, there are plenty of lesser-known spots on the Yorkshire coast that make for amazing adventures. Scarborough Surf School at Cayton Bay offers a range of activities, including Coasteering, for thrill seekers and is well worth a try. There are historical sights, beautiful scenery and landmarks across the rugged coastline. Let’s face it: nothing beats a bracing walk on the beach, even in winter! We hope that has given you a little insight as to what you could do should you choose to spend Christmas on the coast. Don’t forget to keep checking back for more news, updates and information. Have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Why Advertise With Seaview Escapes?

Welcome back to the Seaview Escapes blog from Sarah and Steve. In this post, we want to focus on the advertising side of our website, which was one of the main reasons for setting it up. We wanted to provide an alternative option for coastal holiday cottage owners that didn’t charge excessive fees or take a percentage of any booking fees. As owners, this is what we would want: control of our own properties and booking platforms whilst using a 3rd party website to promote their cottages. So, why should you consider advertising with Seaview Escapes?

  • Full-page colour listing per property with a photo carousel
  • A link through to your own hosting page/booking platform so that you retain control of your bookings
  • One-off fee, with no commission. For example, a single booking via a visit to the Seaview Escapes website versus other platforms would pay for itself.
  • It could free you up to be more competitive whilst still making the same profits, should you wish to pass the commission savings onto the customer, which may, in turn, increase your earnings potential.

Who Are Seaview Escapes?

Hello and welcome to our Seaview Escapes blog! Our first blog post is intended to explain a little bit about who we are and why we set up Seaview Escapes. ‘We’ are Sarah Crossland and Steve Adams; we live in Doncaster and have owned properties at The Bay, Filey, since 2014. Our properties were originally managed and let by The Bay, and we used to come over occasionally when they weren’t booked to take advantage of the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Like many people, we had mixed experiences during the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, and it was a time to pause, reflect and focus on what was important in our lives. I (Sarah) decided to leave my 30+ years career in further education to spend more time with our family and manage the properties we had at The Bay.

We approached MultiWebMarketing, a brilliant team based in Doncaster, who developed our new website and supported us with marketing and social media to promote our properties and act as a directory for other coastal holiday cottage owners to advertise with us. You will see that as well as our original three properties located in the village of Filey on the Yorkshire coast, other property owners in Devon and Cornwall have also added their properties to our website, and we are hoping to build this community of coastal holiday cottage owners gradually. Once we had the website in place, we could consider leaving Away Resorts and managing the properties ourselves.

From January 2023, we took the plunge and began managing the properties ourselves for the first time, and so far, so good, but there are always things to learn! We hope to keep you updated about our properties, our plans and the lovely coastal destinations we have on our doorstep. Keep checking back for updates, and please feel free to share the website with your family and friends.

See you soon, Sarah and Steve
